— the work
current campaigns
Hornets United formed with the intention to give back to the school we are fortunate to have attended and the community that built and sustained it since 1913. The values of personal excellence, education, self-sufficiency, respect, celebration of diversity, lifting each other up, even, and perhaps especially, in the face of adversity, are our Legacy. Our roots start at Booker T. Washington High School and reach around the world. Let’s work together to make the world a little more like Booker T.!
BTW Hornets United Phoenix Project
In honor of the Greenwood Race Massacre Centennial, we present The Phoenix Project: From the Ashes Rise. BTW Hornets United Phoenix Project’s objectives are twofold: to promote voter education, registration, and engagement, and to strengthen our community through professional networking and mentorship of current students and recent graduates. Voter registration, education and engagement activities began in 2020 and continue this year. Upcoming events will be posted here. If you are interested in participating, please contact us.
police reform
Our goal is to collaborate with established groups, such as the Crutcher Foundation, to support efforts to end racially biased policing, reimagine the role of policing in the still segregated city of Tulsa, create meaningful minority representation “at the table,” promote panel discussions, training, workshops, or other educational resources.
Mentorship and Networking
As Hornets we received the benefits of Booker T.’s multi-generational Legacy. Many of us have moved away from Tulsa since graduating, making it difficult to continue this Legacy in person. The goal of this project is to provide an opportunity for Booker T Washington alumni in Tulsa and across the world to do our part by connecting and giving back. Long-term, our goal is to engage a software platform that facilitates privacy-protected professional networking and mentorship for current students and recent graduates.

Voter Registration, Education, and Engagement
Initial work began in 2020 and continues today. HU provides voter registration opportunities and educational information about upcoming elections and ballot measures. Our goal is to increase community access and engagement opportunities thereby promoting education, racial equity, police reform, and economic development in North Tulsa.
